UAMS Integrated Clinical Enterprise (ICE) Externship Program

We are delighted that you are interested in exploring an option to participate in our Externship Program! This program is designed specifically for nursing students who plan to work at UAMS Integrated Clinical Enterprise (ICE) upon graduation. This eight (8) week period during the summer is for nursing students who have completed a Foundations Course and 2 (two) clinical rotation (Senior nursing students excluded). If student desires to work more than 8 weeks, extensions can be requested.

Each student will be assigned into a non-benefit position and required to work the same schedule as the assigned preceptor. Schedules are either a 12 hour day or night shift with rotation to the weekend or Weekend Option shifts (A/P) on Friday/Saturday/Sunday. Students are also required to attend a bi-weekly (2) two hour seminars facilitated by Staff Education (usually scheduled on Mondays). Seminars focus on Case Study presentations and “Hot” topic discussions.

A two (2) credit hour course, Nsg. 4042: Special Topics, is also available to UAMS students only who desire to pay tuition. (depending upon area of assignment).

To requests housing, see the Campus Life and Student Support Services for rates/availability/deposit. A $400 monthly allowance will be provided toward student housing for out of town students only who live >50 miles outside Little Rock based upon availability.  Student also responsible to contact Public Safety at 501-526-7275 for campus parking information and monthly student rates.

Ten (10) students will be chosen to participate. Selected students will be required to attend a mandatory orientation between May 23-26, 2017, purchase a “designated” uniform, expected to adhere to UAMS ICE’s policies and standards, and commit to no absences or tardiness.
