Trauma & ED

Trauma Clinical Decision Unit (CDU)

The Clinical Decision Unit is a 16-bed extension of the Emergency Department and provides evaluation and treatment for patients whose selected medical conditions can be managed within a 24-hour time frame. Medical care is provided by Emergency Physicians, Advanced Practice Nurses and Physician Assistants. Nursing care is provided by Registered Nurses (RNs) and Patient Care Technicians with experience in fast-paced acute care environments. RNs in the CDU hold BLS and ACLS certifications and are strongly supported in the pursuit of certification in a related specialty, such as CEN, CCRN, PCCN, or CMSRN.

Emergency Department (ED)

The Emergency Department and Trauma Center provides emergency care to more than 60,000 patients per year. Medical and nursing coverage is delivered by faculty, residents, registered nurses and technicians from the Emergency Medicine Service Line.  RNs in the ED are certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC and are strongly supported in the pursuit of specialized certification in emergency or trauma nursing.
